Summer shipping

Getting your chocolate gift to its destination in perfect condition is THE goal.  We ship with USPS and UPS, choosing the shortest delivery window. But summer temperatures are our biggest challenge, so we don't ship to a large part of the country between late May and October 10.  Recent intense heat news have further reduced the number of states where we are able to ship.

The 10 states listed below are on our shipping list as of mid-July. We will ship early in the week to avoid weekend transit days.  If your order is placed after Wednesday, it will ship the following Monday.

We have adopted a new insulated, totally recyclable shipping container that, paired with a proper ice pack, will provide excellent thermal protection. The extra cost of $7 per box is part of the shipping rates quoted below.

The average weight of a package with an ice pack is 4 lbs.  For reference, the USPS commercial rate to ship 4 lbs to Maine is $9, to the Midwest $16, and $23 to the West Coast. And rates that you would pay as a consumer are higher, particularly on UPS.

Our summer shipping rates, with insulated box and ice pack:

Maine shipping:  $15, most of the state is one day via UPS, or two days at most.

New England shipping:  $16, one to two days.  Includes Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont and Connecticut.

Mountain & West shipping:  $29, two days, except for a few areas which take three days:  we will contact you if we need to do 2nd day Air. Includes Colorado, Washington State, Oregon, and Alaska.

We do not ship to the following states right now:  Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, D. C., Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky,  Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

We will resume service with the whole country early October.  At that time we also switch to regular shipping boxes and our lower winter rates.

    -  Please tell your recipient a gift is coming and to bring it inside right away.  No package, even with insulation/ice packs, will resist hours in the hot sun or hot mailbox.

    -  We will delay shipping if there is a big heatwave, and will advise you of the delay.
